“My love for music and people alike, drives me to want to aid development in both confidence and skill for students of all ages in their chosen instrument. My overarching passion however - beyond the music itself - is to encourage my students to develop in confidence, not just in their instrument, but in their person as well. I want to facilitate a space where students can use the medium of music to help unlock potential in both their musical ability and their character.”
- Rachel
Ever since I was a child I’ve had a growing passion, fascination and love for music. I was singing before I could talk and quickly expanded into other instruments. I was determined to learn at my own pace and by my own instruction (despite my lack of knowledge at the time - not my wisest choice). I started with guitar at the age of 10 and picked up piano by 14. As my interest and enjoyment for the instruments grew I began having lessons, only to become frustrated with my deteriorating desire to practice and my loss of focus when the lesson differed from what I wanted to be learning about. Through these experiences, I have developed a teaching style by which students can retain and build their passion through lessons catered to their learning style and personal goals. There are always going to be parts of learning that interest you less, but if they are paired with application that excites you, the flicker of inspiration can continue to grow!
It is my goal to help develop my students knowledge and skill to allow them to flourish and achieve their goals, shaping them into the musician they want to be. One of my favourite parts of my job is not only watching my students skills developing, but encouraging their character growth as well through building confidence, learning how to process failure and grow from it as well as building perseverance and discipline. You’re not always going to be amazing at things from the get go, so learning how to keep getting up and trying again is extremely important for a students growth.
